Campbell is a Scottish and Irish family name of Gaelic origins.
The name in some cases derives from the Scottish Clan Campbell, in other cases from Mac Cathmhaoil meaning son of the battle chieftain.[citation needed]
Campbell is the 47th-most common surname in the United Kingdom.[2] Within the United States, it is ranked as the 46th-most common surname.[3]
