Cañada College is a community college located at 4200 Farm Hill Boulevard in an unincorporated area of Redwood City, California, just off Highway 280. Cañada College opened in 1968 as part of the three-school San Mateo County Community College District. It is one of the smallest community colleges in the San Francisco Bay Area. The college is located on 131 acres (0.53 km2) in the western part of Redwood City.
The college was one of the first community colleges in California to partner with four-year universities to offer bachelor degrees on-site.[citation needed] It offers bachelor's degrees in nursing, business administration, liberal studies, and child and adolescent development in addition to teaching credentials for elementary and secondary schools.
Cañada has fashion design, interior design, and video game art programs. The college has the largest English Language Institute in the Bay Area and is a destination for people enrolled in English as a Second Language programs. It has a partnership with the NASA Ames Research Center and San Francisco State University that provides students with research opportunities at NASA and enrollment in the SFSU capstone program for engineering.
Cañada has healthy Phi Theta Kappa and MESA programs, thanks to advisors Paul Roscelli and Kathy Lipe.
The college's name should be spelled with a tilde over the n (as "ñ") in order to avoid it being mistaken for a college in Canada.
The college has free tutoring. It is known for being friendly and supportive.
The Cañada College library is part of the county-wide Peninsula Library System which connects the college library with dozens of other local libraries. Librarians provide free research and writing help to students and the library provides use of computers and study rooms.
