Canadian Pacific Railway Limited (TSX: CP NYSE: CP) is a Canadian rail transportation company that operates the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was created in 2001 when the CPR's former parent company, Canadian Pacific Limited, spun off its railway operations. On October 3, 2001, the company's shares began to trade on the New York Stock Exchange and the Toronto Stock Exchange under the "CP" symbol. During 2003, the company earned $3.5 billion (Canadian dollars) in freight revenue. Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd is a public company with 15,000 employees and 6.5 billion USD market capitalization.[1] In October 2008, Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd was named one of "Canada's Top 100 Employers" by Mediacorp Canada Inc., and was featured in Maclean's newsmagazine. Later that month, CPR was also named one of Alberta's Top Employers, which was announced by the Calgary Herald[2] and the Edmonton Journal.[3][4]
