[edit] History
Évasion was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) as Canal Évasion on May 21, 1999 to a consortium led by BCE inc. (50.1%). The other shareholders included Serdy direct Inc. (19.9%); Groupe TVA. (10%); Media Overseas (10%); and Pathé/Canal Voyage France (10%). The channel launched on January 31, 2000 under the same name and arrangement it was licensed as.
Through various acquisitions over the years, ownership is currently held by the managing partner Serdy Direct and Groupe TVA as a minority partner.
In December 2008, the channel unveiled a new image including a new logo, on-air presentation and more, including simplifiying its name by dropping the "Canal" to simply "Évasion".
[edit] Évasion HD
On June 12, 2009, Serdy Direct launched an HD simulcast of Évasion. It is currently available on Cogeco Cable and Vidéotron.
