The Canterbury Guineas was a thoroughbred horse race held over 1900 metres at set weights for 3 year old horses. The race was held in March each year as part of the Sydney Autumn Carnival at Canterbury Park Racecourse in Sydney, Australia.

Race History[edit]

In 2006, the Canterbury Guineas was discontinued and replaced by the Randwick Guineas after the Australian Jockey Club and the Sydney Turf Club implemented major program changes. [1] Essentially the racing clubs removed the signature race from Canterbury and created a new race, the Randwick Guineas at a shorter distance.[2]

The race was original run in the spring in early September but after 1978 the race was run early in the autumn as prep race for the rich Sydney carnival.
