Canyon Vista Middle School (CVMS) is a middle school located in Austin, Texas. It is part of the Round Rock Independent School District. It has three subsidiary elementary schools:
- Laurel Mountain Elementary School
- Kathy Caraway Elementary School (Name changed from North Oaks Elementary in 2005)
- Spicewood Elementary School
It follows on to Westwood High School.
In 1996, Canyon Vista had an extension built to accommodate at least 201 extra lockers as well as 10 extra rooms.
Canyon Vista has won two National Blue Ribbon School awards from the United States Department of Education (1990–91 and 1999-2000 [1]) and has also been chosen by the Texas Education Agency as one of the top ten middle schools in Texas. In 2007, it was named one of the "Best Schools in Texas" by Texas Monthly.[2] In 2007, Canyon Vista also was awarded the TBEC award.[3] In 2011, Canyon Vista was awarded as a NCEA Higher Performing School for the 2010 school year.[4] The Canyon Vista orchestra was recognized as the TMEA String Honor Orchestra in 2010, and the Symphony Orchestra was recognized in 2011. In the summer of 2011, Canyon Vista went under construction to hold a new band hall, new science labs, a new cafeteria, and other various renovations.[5] As of the start of the 2011 school year, Canyon Vista has been recognized with many awards such as the #1 Rated Middle School in Central Texas by Children at Risk Organization, the 2011 TEBC - Texas Education and Business Coalition School award, the 2011 TEA Exemplary School award, and the 2011 Just for Kids High Performing School award.[6]
