Cao Bằng (
listen) is a town in northern Vietnam. It is the capital and largest settlement of Cao Bằng province. It is located on the bank of the Bằng Giang river, and is around 30 km away from the border with China. The city is also known as the battlefield site of the first major decisive victory of the Việt Minh took place against the French Army.
