Exhibition view of "Pluton" by Tobias Lehner.

Carbon 12 Dubai was established in 2008, the first gallery in the region to initiate a comprehensive, firmly global, program of institution-grade artists. In October 2009 the gallery moved from the Dubai Marina to the Alserkal Avenue warehouse district in Dubai’s Al Quoz industrial area, which is now the most significant hub of contemporary art in the region.[1] Internationally active, Carbon 12 continuously introduces and promotes both established and emerging artists to the UAE contemporary art scene, supplementing its 6-8 annual exhibitions with diverse contextual activities including publications and talks that actively engage the public and educational institutions. The playful, organic process that constitutes the creative production of Carbon 12’s artist base is facilitated and mirrored by its location in Al Quoz.

The gallery participates regularly in international art fairs like Art Cologne, abc (art Berlin Contemporary), Viennafair and Art Dubai.

Carbon 12's represented artists are: Jamie Baldridge, Katherine Bernhardt, Olaf Breuning, Bernhard Buhmann, André Butzer, Rui Chafes, James Clar, Gil Heitor Cortesao, Ghazel, Birgit Graschopf, Hazem Mahdy, Philip Mueller, Sara Rahbar, Anahita Razmi, Michael Sailstorfer and Ralf Ziervogel.

Ed Lake described the first show as "vibrant, the established names venerable indeed and the emerging talents sincerely promising."[2]

Carbon 12 has followings on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Blogspot.
