Carlos Alberto Sánchez Moreno (born 6 March 1986 in Quibdó, Chocó, Colombia) is a Colombian professional footballer who plays for Elche CF as a central midfielder. He is nicknamed La Roca, which means The Rock, due to his solidity in the game.

Club career[edit]

Sanchez began his career with Danubio, signing his first professional contract in 2003. However, he failed to make an official appearance in his two years at the club.

River de Uruguay[edit]

In the summer of 2005, Sanchez was signed by another Uruguayan club, this time River de Uruguay. He remained at River until 2007, making 40 appearances and scoring once.

Sanchez joined Valenciennes in 2007 on a five-year deal. Sanchez would make himself an ideal player for Valenciennes, making it quickly into their starting line-up. In 2010, he suffered a serious knee injury, leaving him out of the pitch for nearly a year. After making 148 appearances for the club, scoring 8 goals in the league, he left the club in the summer of 2012 when his contract expired. After long negotiations with Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United, he failed to reach an agreement with any club. Then, he finally rejoined his former club Valenciennes. He continued with the French club until the end of the 2012-13 season.

In August 2013, Sanchez moved to newly promoted La Liga side Elche CF. The deal consisted of a fee regarding €3.7 million with a contract lasting until 2016.[1] He was handed the number 24 shirt consequent to his arrival.

International career[edit]

He made his international debut against Panama on 9 May 2007. He was then included in the 34 men provisional squad for the Copa América 2007, but later dropped for the final list. He has been in the first team for all of Colombia's matches for 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification including the 2–1 victory over Argentina on November 20, 2007 in Bogotá.
