[edit] History
In July 2007, the district became part of the Maakhir province of Somalia, which was later incorporated into the autonomous Puntland region in January 2009.[1]
Local control is disputed between Puntland, Somaliland, a self-declared independent republic that is internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia, and HBM-SSC (Hoggaanka Badbaadada iyo Mideynta SSC), a local unionist group whose goal is the creation of its own regional administration (Sool, Sanaag and Cayn or SSC).[2]
[edit] Geography
The town is located in the Hadeed Plateau, a tract of land that covers the middle section of a large area of the Sool Plateau.
