[edit] Biography

Trutanich grew up in the Los Angeles community of San Pedro where he attended elementary and high school. Trutanich went on to attend the University of Southern California where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting and Business Management. Trutanich also received a MBA from the University of Southern California where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. After obtaining his MBA, Trutanich worked in the tuna industry for StarKist FDS. Trutanich attended night school at South Bay University College of Law where he graduated with a Juris Doctor in 1978.

Trutanich worked as a prosecutor on behalf on Los Angeles County before forming his own firm.[3] Trutanich is a founding partner of the law firm Trutanich & Michel. Trutanich's ballot title is "environmental attorney", the Los Angeles Times stated in 2009.[4]

[edit] 2009 Election

In 2009, Trutanich won the runoff election and replaced Rocky Delgadillo as Los Angeles' City Attorney by defeating Jack Weiss and winning the 2009 Los Angeles City Attorney Election on May 19, 2009. His campaign had received endorsements from the Los Angeles Times,[5] Los Angeles Daily News,[6] California Leader Magazine,[7] and Daily Breeze.[8][9] His term started on July 1, 2009.[10]

[edit] First Term

Trutanich has proposed that protestors who illegally block streets, resist arrest, and assemble unlawfully be charged with misdemeanors that carry a maximum sentence of up to one year in jail. “You have the right to protest; you don't have the right to break the law," Trutanich said in an LA Times article by Kate Linthicum and Andrew Blankstein.[11][12] "I fully support every person’s right to free speech, and their right to protest, but nowhere in the First Amendment does it give anyone a right to lie down in the street and impede traffic," Trutanich added in and on-air interview on the John and Ken Show on KFI640.
