This category includes people who were notable colonists in the areas which would become the United States prior to the era of American Revolution. That is, they were notable before about 1765, such as people involved in the French and Indian War.
People who are primarily associated with the Revolutionary era should not be placed in this category; they are instead located in Category:People of the American Revolution.
