Category:Flora of North America
|Pages in this category should be moved to subcategories where applicable.
This category may require frequent maintenance to avoid becoming too large. It should directly contain very few, if any, articles and should mainly contain subcategories.
This category contains articles related to the flora of North America. It includes plant taxa that are native to North America. Taxa of the lowest rank are always included. Higher taxa are included only if endemic. Articles should be WP:DIFFUSED, however, to the most specific categories, whether that be regional categories (such as Category:Flora of the Southeastern United States) or state, provincial, or country categories within North America. Only when a plant taxon is truly ubiquitous through all of North America should it be included within this category.
For the purposes of this category, North America is defined in accordance with the definition of "Northern America" in the World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions. That is, it includes
- the United States, including Alaska and the Aleutian Islands, but not Hawaii;
but excludes Central America, which is geophysically a part of North America, but has stronger floristic affinities with South America, and so is treated as part of the latter continent.
