House of Romania was formed as the titular Royal House of Romania in May 2011 by Michael I, former King of the Romanians. The former King was born as a member and Prince of the House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, a German dynasty agnatically related (and senior) to the Royal Prussian and Imperial German House of Hohenzollern. Until the changes in 2011, Michael I, his wife and his daughters used titles of Prince and Princess of Hohenzollern, but members of the former King's family not agnatically related to the Royal House, like Radu Duda, the husband of Princess Margarita of Romania and Nicholas Michael de Roumanie Medforth-Mills, son of Princess Elena of Romania, were formally excluded from the membership in the Royal House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen of Romania. Although that, Michael I granted them Royal titles and status as well as membership in the Royal Family on his own right, but it was not recognised by the head of Michael I's house, Friedrich Wilhelm, the titular Prince of Hohenzollern. In face of this succession and naming conflict, Michael I of Romania severed in May 2011 severed all of the dynastic and historical ties with the princely house of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, changed the name of his family to "of Romania", and gave up all princely titles conferred to him and to his family by the German Hohenzollerns.

Note that Princes Radu and Nicholas of Romania, included in this Category as members of the House of Romania formed in 2011 by former King Michael I of Romania, were not members of the House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, as it was with the King himself, his wife and daughters.
