The aim of this category is to reference hypothetical technologies currently spread across articles (e.g. Halting State, Fictional technology) and other categories (e.g. Technology Forecasting, Futurology). By definition, hypothetical technologies should be distinct from emerging technologies, although there may be considerable overlap with those emerging technologies that have been hypothesized to be emergent for a long period of time.
This category may include concepts from Exploratory engineering. As there is often only a thin line between fiction and hypothesis, this category will have considerable overlap with Fictional technology. Hypothetical technologies listed here should be:
- not proven to be impossible
- not merely a (name for a) fictional idea
