Many of these images will get deleted on Commons as they are still copyrighted in their country of origin or have insufficient source information to satisfy the Commons:Commons:Project scope. See Category:Files with restricted public domain status for files that are public domain in other countries but that also may not be safe to transfer to Commons.
This category is intended to hold images that are in the public domain in the United States. Each image in this category should have sufficient and verifiable source information in order to determine whether it is eligible for moving to Commons:
- Country of origin
- Date when image was published
- If country of origin is not the USA:
- List of names of the main creators (copyright holders)
- Date of death of the last deceased creator
- If creators were anonymous, a citation that demonstrates the work was published anonymously
- If creators were pseudonymous, a citation that demonstrates the work was published pseudonymously
