Indians who received British knighthoods prior to 1947, when India became independent and was partitioned into the nations of India and Pakistan. An Indian knight was a male native British subject of a country under the British Raj before 1947, who was appointed a Knight Grand Cross/Knight Grand Commander or Knight Commander of an honour in the British honours system, or who was appointed a Knight Bachelor.
