Music in Pakistan at the time of independence was mainly focused on folk, qawwali and filmi genres. The first popular musical groups in Pakistan sprung up during the late eighties, which included Strings, Awaz, Jupiters and Vital Signs. The nineties proved to be the boom years of the industry as the introduction of pop music and rock music became more popular with the youth.
