The Russophile movement in Western Ukraine was a cultural and political movement largely that proposed that western Ukrainians were a branch of the Russian people. It dominated western Ukrainian society in the mid to late nineteenth centuries before being eclipsed by Ukrainian patriotism or nationalism but existed until the mid twentieth century.
