Russia retained much of its hefty armaments industry after the breakup of the Soviet Union, and continues to use this industry as one of the nation's best sources of hard currency. Most of its designs originated during the Cold War, but extensive upgrades and modernizations combined with competitive pricing have kept them in business. A few new designs have also been developed and offered for sale.
