There are debating societies that are not restricted to students, such as Cogers. Not clear why this category is seen as for students only? Mpntod 22:44, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

I agree that Cogers does not belong with the others. I would have renamed the cat if there had been a tool to do so. The others are a consistent set, and should be a category of their own. Septentrionalis 18:04, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I have put a request for renaming onto CfD Septentrionalis 18:36, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Now the CFD is closed, we have a clear decision that we need a category of "Debating Societies". This is a clearly defined group used in common parlance and, personally, I'm glad we kept it. There is a discussion as to whether we should have a sub-category of "Student debating societies". I'd also be tempted to ask whether "Literary and debating societies" shouldn't also be a subcategory. Mpntod 22:17, July 18, 2005 (UTC)
Yes, and all of these but Cogers belong in Category:Student debating societies. Will you help? Septentrionalis 01
