People of Importance[edit]

The list should include only the names of persons who achieved some name and fame. This is not the place for every Tom, Dick and Harry. There is no point in including so many people from movie world.

Ensuring that the category gets its due[edit]

Hi, till yesterday the category had 53 articles. Now, it has 90 articles as I've been tagging the category to articles on Telugu People. Easy ways to do this are to go to Telugu, Hyderabad, India etc. and use the tool What links here. However, I've already exhausted the same. Others may want to check these for later additions or other links that may be useful. Thanks, ---Gurubrahma 07:54, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

After exhausting What links here for Andhra Pradesh, the category has reached 118. Gurubrahma 07:58, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Telugu people[edit]

  • I dont know what is the rationale for including people like Fath Jang Mir Osman Ali Khan Asif Jah VII, Jamsheed Quli Qutb Shah, and Tabu (actress) can be included in Telugu people. Strictly they are not. They might be classified as Andhra People (I am not too sure about this too).
  • People like Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya are telugu people.
  • My best suggestion would be to create a new category Hyderabadis and include all the nizams and Qutubshahi kings, Tabu, Owaisi, Mohammad Azharuddin, Harsha Bhogle, Sania Mirza, M.L.Jaisimha, Nagesh Kukunoor into the new category.--Vyzasatya 20:46, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
What we do not need is a duplication of categories and people under them. e.g. I can be a hyderabadi and a telugu. If and when a separate Telangana state is formed, wd we have Telangana people? (just thinking aloud) - For some of the ppl who were born before 1940's, I've seen edit wars as to if they shd be classified as Indians or Pakistanis (An extreme case would be L. K. Advani as a Pakistani as he was born in Lahore). For the purpose of this category, all the people tagged as Telugu people shd be able to speak atleast a smattering of telugu - the above examples Tabu etc., Sania Mirza, Mithali Raj all clearly qualify under this. Problem with hyderabadi as a category is that it wd be under-populated - just hv a look at Category:Bangalorean and you will understand. The only problem wd be with people who may stay in AP but can't manage speaking Telugu. They wd not/shd not be included in the category. Telugu NRIs can be perfectly included here. Since this is not telugu wiki, we are better off by having fewer categories. btw, I'm planning to add a few lines shortly to the article page broadly abt what shd go/ not go into the category. --Gurubrahma 17:04, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Guru, Specifying about the criteria and brief intro in the category page is a great idea --Vyzasatya 20:26, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Classification of Asafjahi Rules as Telugu People?[edit]

It would be wrong to classify all the Asafjahi rulers as Telugu for few reasions: 1. Their native tongue was persian 2. They encouraged all languages including marathi...

We would call them telugu people just for the reason we call Akbar an Indian king. Ancestry and lineage are not as important here when compared to their assimilation into the telugu milieu. That they were adept in telugu is well evidenced and hence, their listing under telugu people is well justified. Also, the category clearly explains that Telugu need not be the mother tongue. --Gurubrahma 18:40, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
