Structure of Universities in England[edit]

I find the current structure confusing as some universities are in a subcategory of "Universities in England by county" and others are in the main category. Also some universities have campuses in more than one county. My suggestion is:

This all sounds sensible and helpful to me. – Fayenatic London 08:45, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with TSventon that this would be a helpful change. Aloneinthewild (talk) 09:07, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I oppose this proposal. It contravenes the basic principle of WP:SUBCAT, and would create an unhelpfully large category. Readers who want see the whole set listed on one page already have List of universities in England. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:24, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • BrownHairedGirl, Thanks for your comments. As an alternative I would suggest dispensing with universities by county, Devon‎, Essex‎, Kent‎, Staffordshire, Surrey and Yorkshire‎, and adding the subcategories for universities in Greater London, South and West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and West Midlands (County) to the main category. That would leave the main category a similar size, but would need CfD approxal. A third option would be to create the missing by county subcategories, but (around) 44 by county subcategories would be needed to cover England, which would be excessive for around 90 universities in England outside London. • @TSventon I see no benefit to readers in dspensing with those by-county categories. Why would you want to do that? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:21, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • BrownHairedGirl, I think the by county categories are overcategorisation as there are about two universities per county outside London. Multicampus universities have been placed in more than one county category, so BPP University could be in eight different county categories. How do you think the current structure could be improved, or should it be left as it is? TSventon (talk) 17:46, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
