Table[edit]

Is there anyway that we could make this page a table such as the one for Adopters? I would do it myself but I do not know how. Alex Barrow 19:22, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's no particular need to create a third way for those seeking adoption to seek adoption: (1) they can add the userbox to their page, which will put them into this category; and / or (2) they can go to the list of adopters and ask directly. Having a table as another option would, I think, be redundant to option 1 (and the table would be liable to get out of date very quickly, making it useless for those seeking someone to adopt, who can just go straight to the category.) BencherliteTalk 22:12, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it may be helpful for Adopters to be able to have a bird's eye view of the adoptee's and their devotion, commitment, and goals at wikipedia. For instance, adoptees could list some of their interests or skills so a like-minded adopter could find a good match. Would a table not be able to automatically remove those whose status has changed from adoptee to adopted? Alex Barrow 22:32, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Alternatively, their could be a template for adoptees to display this sort information in their userpage in a neat and organized manner. Perhaps this will be my first task after finding an adopter. Alex Barrow 22:35, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion would be better on the main adoption talk page; I'll copy it across now. BencherliteTalk 23:57, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Error[edit]

Hey, I am also seeking to be adopted. Why isnt my username here?--Idontknow610 12:30, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, me too! So, uh, can SOMEONE do it? -WarriorFIRESTAR (talk) 00:30, 22 October 2008 (UTC), thanks.[reply]

Spring cleaning[edit]

I'm going through this list and doing a few things:

  • Dating undated adoptme requests.
  • Moving adoptme requests from talk pages to main pages, removing them from archived talk pages if they're stale.
  • Where the user has been adopted, or offered adoption, changing the adoptme to adopted and adoptoffer, respectively.
  • Where the user has been inactive for over 2 months (or close to it if they made relatively few edits), removing the adoptme template and leaving the following message on their talk page under the subject "Adoption":
  • Offering adoption to any active users who've been seeking adoption for more than 45 days

Hopefully this should make it easier for new adopters to find someone who really needs adopted. It would be very helpful if we stress to adopters the importance of changing the adoptee's "adoptme" to "adoptoffer" and "adopted" when appropriate. xenocidic (talk) 16:13, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done, but we've got backlog![edit]

Resolved

I've completed the above housekeeping tasks trimming the category from around 120 to about 55, but that's still an unacceptable backlog, in my opinion. These users are looking for guidance, and if we aren't there to provide it, we could lose people who may one day be valuable contributors to Wikipedia. I'm going to try and stir up some activity by leaving messages for adopters who don't currently have any adoptees. xenocidic (talk) 19:08, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've created a template to use for this task, {{subst:Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Backlog|XYZ}} outputs as follows:

==Backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user==

Done. I distributed it to around 160 user talk pages linked from WP:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters. Hopefully the backlog should be cleared by tommorow. Happy adopting, folks. xenocidic (talk) 20:17, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nice work all. From 120 outstanding requests for adoption down to 3, in the period of a few days! xenocidic (talk) 21:57, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I thought the page was broken when I checked it now, no adoption requests! this cannot be the case! but it is. good job team.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 22:37, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Backlog alert userbox[edit]

I've created a userbox that will alert members to backlog:

{{Adoption backlog}} results in:

and if the number of users seeking to be adopted exceeds 15 it will change to this:

Start from the bottom or the top?[edit]

Hello! I'm just considering asking to be adopted, and out of curiosity was looking through the userpages of adopters and those who are asking to be adopted. The introduction at the top of the "seeking adoption" page says that, as the list is in chronological order, one should start at the top in order to see the "new adoptees." Well, having wasted a lot of time looking at pretty much all the inactive users who placed the tag over a month ago, I finally realised that the new ones are at the end of the list! Is this an error in the introduction, or something that I don't understand about how lists work in Wikipedia? It is all too likely to be the latter, but I don't mind if you tell me so!  :)))) Thanks, Maedin (talk) 21:26, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the late reply. The word "new" really means a "new adoptee to the adopter"... not a "fresh" seeker. Typically we want the people who have been seeking for the longest to eventually get someone to adopt them! ...Unless their inactive... If so, see about at #Spring cleaning. –xeno (talk) 20:10, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indef blocked user requesting adoption[edit]

I was having a look at who was requesting adoption (and fixing anywhere that adoptme wasn't changed to adoptoffer) and I noticed an indef blocked user was requesting adoption. Should I simply remove the userbox and leave a note for them to readd it if they are ever unblocked or should I leave it just in case some kind-hearted user wants to take this on to help get them unblocked? It appears it was blocked as a vandalism only account so I doubt it will get unblocked but I feel like it shouldn't just hang in limbo waiting to be adopted for eternity and adding onto the backlog. Is there a rule of thumb for this sort of thing? Stardust8212 21:13, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just remove the userbox imo. –xeno (talk) 21:14, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that's kinda what I was thinking, didn't wanna cause trouble though. Stardust8212 21:19, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More offers?[edit]

I'd like to have more offers from adopters before I pick one (or more, as discussed here [1]), but I don't want to chronically clog the "seeking" page. Suggestions? SaaHc2B (talk) 03:03, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You could just stick the "adoptme" template in and write in bold letters that you want to check out different adopters before settling and that you would like them to either put their offer on your talk page or put a separate "adoptoffer" template instead of replacing the "adoptme" template. As soon as you are satisfied with the number of offers, you can remove the template yourself. Hope this helps.--Twilight Helryx 16:10, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How to remove myself from this category?[edit]

Another editor looking for adoption has placed the {{adoptme}} template on my user talk page, which is why I am included in this category. I am not looking for adoption, as I have already graduated from Nick Moyes's informal adoption program. I would like to avoid editing another editor's comments on my talk page, but if there's no other way to remove myself from this category, would something like this fall under WP:OWNTALK?
