Cecile de Brunhoff (née Sabouraud) (October 16, 1903 – April 7, 2003) was a French storyteller and the co-creator of the Babar stories. Cecile de Brunhoff was also a classically trained pianist.[4][5][6]

She told the stories to her son Mathieu when he was sick, and her husband Jean de Brunhoff wrote and illustrated the children's books that became popular worldwide.[7] Her son Laurent de Brunhoff has carried on the family tradition of writing and illustrating Babar books.
