Ceel-Doofaar (renamed Ceel-Daahir) is a town in the northeastern Bari region of Somalia.
[edit] Overview
The town was formerly a part of the briefly-extant Maakhir state, which was later officially incorporated into the autonomous Puntland region in January 2009.[1]
Ceel-Doofaar literally translates as "Pig's borewell". Since Muslims view pigs as unclean animals, Maakhir's then authorities subsequently renamed the city to Ceel-Daahir or "Pure borewell".
