It is headed by Prof. Elias Siores and constitute about 15 academic and 6 research staff. It is situated in i-Zone of Deans Campus beside chancellors building.

The research projects range from textiles to FETs. The centre is known for its strong applied materials science and engineering applications through the development of new materials (fibers, films, foams and particles) at nano and micro levels, as well as associated processing technologies.[1] Established application areas include Smart Materials and Systems, Microsystems and Technologies, Medical and Healthcare Devices, Specialty Composites, Technical Textiles, Fire Materials, and Modelling and Simulation. There are dedicated laboratories in these areas of activity and materials fabrication, characterisation and testing laboratories complemented by a suite of materials modelling capabilities.

The centre also offers postgraduate and doctoral degrees in Advanced Materials.
