The 22205/22206 Chennai Madurai AC Duronto Express is a Indian Railway-operated fully Air-Conditioned Non-stop Superfast Bi-weekly train between Chennai, Capital of Tamil Nadu and Madurai, the Temple city. Along with the Coimbatore Duronto and the Thiruvanathapuram Duronto, this train is one of the three fastest and most acclaimed services operated by the Southern Railways.

Background[edit]

The ever-growing inflow to the State Capital from Madurai and its neighboring districts and the heavy rail traffic on the Tambaram-Villupuram-Madurai section,[2] is the prime reason behind operating the train from Chennai Central.[3] And hence the fact that it takes a longer route via Dindugul, Karur, Jolarpet. The train does not make any commercial halts en route and plies across the Chennai-Salem-Madurai line.[4][5][6]
