[edit] History
Club Deportivo Marathón was founded on November 25, 1925 in San Pedro Sula by Eloy Montes and a group of his friends.[1] Ever since, Marathón has become one of the most prestigious clubs in Honduras winning multiple titles. They formed a rivalry in 1925 with Club Deportivo Olimpia which is known as the Superclasico (Superclasic) Clasico Nacional (National derby). This match represents the rivalry between Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, the largest cities in Honduras.
In the near future, Marathón will be the only club in Honduras to own its stadium. All the other stadiums in the league are owned by the city governments.
The Clasico Nacional (National Derby)(SuperClasico), is a Local derby played between Club Deportivo Marathón and Club Deportivo Olimpia. This derby dates back to the 1920s. Since one team was from San Pedro Sula and the other one from Tegucigalpa people started calling it the SuperClasico Nacional.
