Sharana, meaning "the surrendered one", refers to a person who is surrendered to the deity Lord Shiva. In practice it is a word used to denote a contemporary lingayat, the follower of Basava. Hitherto, the followers of Basava's teachings in letter and spirit and contributors to the Vachana Sahitya were designated as true Sharanas. Below is a list of them in alphabetical order:[1][2][3]
