- Check-out counter is furniture for servicing customers, consisting of a table that divides the seller's and buyer's space. Goods are put onto this table for counting and accounting as well as delivering goods.
- Bar counter or bar is a counter for serving drinks. Its height depends on style.
- Kitchen counter is in a home or restaurant. It is used for preparing food. It is also very useful when it comes to putting things down. Often beneath the countertop are drawers and cabinets for storing cooking utensils.
