San Jose City Council is the municipal government of the city of San Jose, California.

General Election, June 6, 2006

Councilmember Chuck Reed defeated Vice Mayor Cindy Chavez in the November general election and took the position as Mayor in January 2007. Sam Liccardo replaced Vice Mayor Cindy Chavez whose term ended December 31, 2006. Councilmember Ken Yeager defeated Council colleague Linda J. LeZotte to replace Santa Clara County Supervisor Jim Beall who was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2006. Pierluigi Oliverio defeated Steve Tedesco in a run-off election March 6, 2007 to replace Councilmember Yeager.

Council member Kansen Chu (District 4) soundly defeated Hon Lien in a special June 5 election.

At the state level, San Jose is represented in the California State Assembly by the 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 28th Assembly districts[1] . As of 2006, those Assembly members are Ira Ruskin, Sally J. Lieber, Joe Coto, James T. Beall Jr., and Anna Caballero, respectively; all Assembly Members are from the Democratic Party.[2] San Jose residents are represented in the California State Senate by the 10th, 11th, 13th, and 15th Senate districts. The State Senators are Ellen Corbett, S. Joseph Simitian, Elaine Alquist, and Abel Maldonado. Senator Maldonado is a member of the Republican Party, the other three senators are Democrats.[3]
