The station was founded in 2009 as an Internet-only broadcaster and became the first radio station in Southeast Asia to set up a full studio with RJs to run an online station. In December 2010 the station was the first to be awarded with private FM radio station license by the government. It began broadcasting in January 2012 or December 2011. Dhaka FM runs 20 hours per day of live programmes.
