DJ Red Alert (born in 1944 Harlem, New York) is a disc jockey on 98.7 Kiss-FM, N.Y.C., and has been recognized as a hip hop pioneer.[1] Red Alert has been noted for breaking in such acts and artists as A Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah, and Black Sheep.[2]

Red, who has Antiguan heritage, also had a small hip hop management company in the late 1980s called Red Alert Productions, which managed the careers of Native Tongues acts such as the Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, and Monie Love. Along with Chris "Baby Chris" Lighty of Violator Records fame (who went on to work with Lyor Cohen and Russell Simmons at Rush Artist Management, taking A Tribe Called Quest with him) and Dave Funkenklein (who later ran the Disney-owned Hollywood BASIC label), Red offered the only alternative to Rush (whom he despised) and Cold Chillin' Records' management division.
