[edit] Music and influences
Daddysmilk's has a varied musical spectrum, with influences including modern alternative rock, punk and pop. Their music also incorporates elements from swing jazz, musicals and traditional Norwegian folk music. Lately, Daddysmilk have strayed from their riff-based roots, and moved into more chord-based song structuring, while maintaining a heavy focus on melody and vocal harmonies. Their music has been compared to Tool, System of a Down, Queens of the Stone Age, and early My Chemical Romance.
All of the members collaborate in terms of songwriting, though the main contributor seem to be Marius Aasan. Øystein Sootholtet also contributed a lot to the songwriting process early in the bands career, but left the band in early 2008.
[edit] Relocation to Manchester
Daddysmilk relocated to Manchester, England in late 2008, stating the reason for relocating as being frustration for a lack of a musical scene in Oslo, and Norway, and a lack of appreciation from the musical establishment in Norway. The band was never featured on Norwegian National Broadcasting's Urørt, a nation-wide radio show designed to showcase unsigned talent in Norway. The band was however featured in the popular online game "Ski Challenge 2008" with their song "Bounce". It was also used at promotional television advertisement for the game on Norwegian National Broadcasting.
Jay Bardsley joined the band as a permanent bass player in early 2009. Bardsley, being a long-time part of the Manchester music scene, with experience from bands like The Bedlam Six and F.I.G.M.O. Reza Sarmast, left the band shortly after, leaving the band auditioning for a new guitarist. In early June 2009, the band decided upon Keith Wass as their new guitarist.
[edit] Popularity
Daddysmilk gained a moderate fanbase in the Oslo area, as the word spread around their live performances, as well as a steadily increasing online fanbase. Their international fanbase has strongest roots in Mexico, Canada, Singapore and Japan, thanks to good chart positions and good reviews on websites Garageband.com, OurStage.com and IACmusic.com.
[edit] Lyrics
Lyrics in Daddysmilk songs focus on character-based storytelling. Recurring references to names like Aaron, Jackie, Lucy and Susie have yet to see any connection or correlation. Fans speculate on a grand plot, melting together the stories of these characters.
[edit] Shell Economy Marathon in France
Daddysmilk made a surprise appearance at the Nogaro Motorway Circuit in France in May 2006. They supported the event by playing two shows on the 25th and 26th of May.
