History [edit]

The team was based in Dallas, Texas. They played their home games in the Reunion Arena, which they shared with the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association. The team made the ArenaBowl their first season and returned to the playoffs in their final two years. In 1993, they lost in the first week of the playoffs and were disbanded shortly thereafter.

Jerry Jones later bought the remains of the team and revived the Dallas arena football team in 2000. However, he sold the rights to the Texans name to Bob McNair to allow McNair to name his expansion NFL team the Houston Texans.[citation needed] The Dallas arena football team later was renamed the Dallas Desperados, playing from 2002 to 2008. The current Dallas Vigilantes franchise is an expansion team unrelated to either the Texans or Desperados.
