Dan Kaplan

Dan Kaplan (born December 27, 1971) is a contemporary American Poet.

[edit] Biography

Dan Kaplan is originally from Washington D.C. and currently resides in Portland, Oregon. He pursued a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in English from the University of Pennsylvania and went on to receive his Master's of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama. While attending the University of Alabama he worked as the editor for the Black Warrior Review.

Kaplan currently teaches at Portland State University and works for a nonprofit children's literacy organization.

Kaplan is author of Bill's Formal Complaint (The National Poetry Review Press,2008) and the bilingual chapbook SKIN (Red Hydra Press, 2005). His poetry can also be found in a variety of publications, including Denver Quarterly, Barrow Street, POOL, and Indiana Review.

Kaplan's influence to become a poet is linked to his recognition and obsession of the text's details and how they interact and impact their surroundings. Kaplan has been quoted as saying "change one thing, and everything changes. For me it's fascinating and gratifying and maddening" (2009).
