[edit] 2008 candidacy for United States Congress

Walsh ran for the 8th Congressional District seat in 2008, finishing in the general election with 9.7 percent of the vote, behind Democratic candidate Nancy Pelosi (71.9 percent) and Independent candidate Cindy Sheehan (16.2 percent).[1] Her 2008 platform focused on stabilizing Iraq without setting a timetable for withdrawal and by supporting David Petraeus. On immigration, she advocated for the Secure Fences Act as a counter to illegal immigration.[2]

As of July 2008, she had already doubled the financial support of Pelosi's 2006 Republican opponent, but had raised only about $360,000 (compared with Pelosi's $2.3 million at that point in the race).[3]
