Danay García (born July 5, 1984) is a Cuban film and television actress. She played the role of Sofia Lugo in Fox network's drama series, Prison Break.

In June 2007, The Hollywood Reporter stated that García would be joining the television series Prison Break as a series regular. Her character, Sofia Lugo, was a Latina woman whose boyfriend was imprisoned with the show's main character Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller).[1][2] García described her character as someone who "fights to get him out because she is the reason why he is in jail. He was defending her. It’s a beautiful love story between the two characters. Lincoln and Sofia become a team to rescue Michael and Whistler (my boyfriend)."[3]

In 2009, she co-starred in From Mexico with Love as Maria, the Mexican girlfriend of the main character Hector (Kuno Becker).[4][5] García described it as "a beautiful movie that I enjoyed very much working on... I relate to my character Maria because I came to this country 4 years ago. I couldn’t speak English well. It was really hard, the culture, the people, and the food, I felt like I was on a different planet."[3]

Personal life[edit]

Danay García was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. She grew up dancing ballet for thirteen years, before she decided to find a "career for life" and become a model as a way to "try something new."[3] At a modeling audition, a friend suggested she try the theatre. García found acting "so thrilling and fulfilling," and decided she wanted to become an actress.[3] Michael Greenwald, the Vice President of Talent at Don Buchwald & Associates, became the talent agent of García as well as other Latina actresses such as America Ferrera and María Conchita Alonso.[6]
