Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party, known as Dancing Stage Hottest Party in the European and Oceanic regions, is a video game released by Konami in 2007 and 2008 to several countries for the Wii console. Konami took the game beyond the traditional setup of Dance Dance Revolution by incorporating the Wii Remote and the standard dance pad into a full body motion game. It has a sequel, Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 2

Unlike the previous release of Dance Revolution on a Nintendo console, Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix, Hottest Party was not a collaboration between Konami and Nintendo. It is not a sequel, but the Nintendo GameCube accessories for Mario Mix are compatible with Hottest Party.[4]

A demo shown to press in February 2007 included three songs. The final game includes 50 songs from the last "four decades of music".[5] Several modes of multi player for up to four players are included, including an upgraded version of the classic Battle Mode, a new Friendly Sync mode in which all participants must perform actions in sync to get credit for them, and a Friendship Mode in which only the most accurate step out of the 2-4 participating players gets counted. Though previously mentioned as being absent from the game while in development, Workout Mode is featured in the final product.[6]

Gameplay is largely unchanged from other Dance Revolution games. However, the game features additional modes taking advantage of the hardware of the Wii. The game allows the integration of the Wii Remote into gameplay, where steps can be replaced by markers requiring a hand motion with the remote. Other step types include steps which must be hit twice.

[edit] Groove Circuit

Groove Circuit is the mode in which many of the game's unlockables can be accessed. The player clears stages while simultaneously unlocking the set of Konami Original songs. A typical stage consists of three different challenges, and a condition that applies to them all. The first challenge is to complete the condition for a set number of songs that are already unlocked. The second challenge involves doing the same thing to songs that are not unlocked yet. Completion will unlock those tracks for Free Play. Lastly, the player must beat an opponent, similar to Battle Mode, while also completing the set condition. Completion will unlock the song, a new costume for the dancer the player defeated, and periodically a new Workout Mode.

Hottest Party also includes several other modes, including a Free Mode, multi player modes, a battle mode, and Sync mode, where several players play the same chart, and only the lowest step judgment on each arrow will count. Friendship mode is an opposite, where the highest step judgment is counted. Hottest Party also includes Workout Mode.

The soundtrack of Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party differs in the Japanese release. "B4U (The Acolyte Mix)", "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)", "Rhythm is a Dancer" and "Unappreciated" are only featured in the North American and European/Oceanic release. "B4U (Rising Sun Mix)", "Double Tornard", "Pluto the First" and "True♥Love (Clubstar's True Club Mix)" are included in their place. "Lessons by DJ" in the Japanese release has Japanese language voice overs during the song, whereas all other releases have English voice overs.

The game has received generally mixed reviews. Many reviews agree the hand motions freshen the DDR experience and are a positive addition to the game.[12]
