He also made 17 pitching appearances, including 13 starts, and was second in the MAC with a 3.28 ERA, going 3-4 with three saves and 60 strikeouts, being also a finalist for the 2010 Golden Spikes Award, which was won by Bryce Harper.[27]

Vitek made his professional debut in 2010, spending most of the season with Class A- Lowell, leading the team in slugging percentage and OPS while finishing second in batting, on-base percentage, runs scored, triples, walks and stolen bases. Promoted to A+ Salem in 2011, he ranked second in the Carolina League in runs (78) and eighth in batting (.281). In 2012, he gained a promotion to AA Portland but had to spend considerable time on the disabled list, batting just .244 in 45 games.[27][28]
