Darkspace is a black metal band from Bern, Switzerland.

In contrast to most misconceptions about black metal productions, the focus of their music is not satanic or misanthropic, but on an "atmospheric" cold and bleak description of space. Besides dominant sounds and vocals are sporadic isolated samples from space-themed films like Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey and the film Event Horizon.

A feature of the band is a renunciation of titling their works. In addition to the exclusively referred to as Dark Space albums songs all bear the name of Dark and are only using different sequence of digits. For example, Dark 1.6 is the sixth song of their first album.

[edit] Biography

Darkspace is a trio from Switzerland founded in 1999 by the musicians Wroth (Paysage D'Hiver), Zorgh and Zhaaral. Three years later, after the demo Dark Space -I in 2003, they released in 2005 their first album Dark Space I in a limited edition of 500 pieces. Dark Space I was later released in 2006 by Avantgarde Music.

In 2006 they released Dark Space II. Originally released in 2003 and 2005 respectively by Haunter of the Dark and now sold out, Darkspace's I and II are now owned up by Avantgarde Music and have been reissued in minimalistic card covered packages.

On 28 May 2008 they released their third album Dark Space III, apparently recorded in an underground shelter.
