DateIITians (Global version as COGXIO.COM) is an online social dating and networking website,[citation needed] founded on 22 January 2012.[2][3]

History[edit]

Started by the trio (Layak Singh, Kinshuk Bairagi & Nikhil Kaushik) from IIT Kharagpur, it launched its alpha version on 22 January 2012.[citation needed] It also launched an online competition in February 2012, where it distributed gifts to the winners based on an application Who will be your Valentine?.[3][4]

As of June 2014, the website is currently down.[5] The website offered[6][7] sharing of photos, videos, links and ideas, live chat, video chat,[8] customised user profiles, notifications, private messaging, a matchmaking suggestions based on an algorithm with the like-minded people, beauty contests and games.[3][9]

Whilst in operation, the site claimed to have more than 20,000+ users,[10] In the last 3 months[when?] there have been more than 1200 flirts,[11] 450+ crushes and 56+ proposals[12][13]

The site is claimed to be relaunching under cogxio.com.[14][15]

In January 2012, the site was featured in Times of India.[16] In May 2012 Firstpost described it as “Divine indeed![12][13]

Criticisms[edit]

The website only allowed users who provide specific identity proof[3][4] to maintain the authenticity of each profile.
