Dead Serious was the debut album of the hip hop duo Das EFX. The Source in their review of the album lauded them for their innovative rhyme flow and for bringing fun back in hip-hop [1] The first single, "They Want EFX," was a #25 pop hit and a #5 R&B hit that propelled Dead Serious to platinum status. The song can be heard in episode one, season three of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, titled How I Spent My Summer Vacation. The song was also referenced in the popular teen-soap opera show, Beverly Hills 90210 and is frequently referenced by comedian Dave Chappelle.

In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. The record was originally rated 4 mics in The Source.[1]
