Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is a restaurant, blues venue, and biker bar chain in New York. Opened in 1988 on Willow Street in downtown Syracuse, it specializes in authentic barbecue, using a wood-fueled barbecue pit. The restaurant markets its sauce, pulled pork, chili, and baked beans at local supermarkets, and at Wegmans, Fairway, D'Agostino's, Price Chopper, and Shaw's Supermarkets across the Northeast. Three additional locations have also been opened in Rochester, New York (in the old Lehigh Valley Railroad Station) in 1998, Harlem, New York City in 2004,[1] and Troy, New York adjacent to the Hudson River in late 2010. In April 2012, a 5th location will open in Newark, NJ near the Prudential Center, home of the NHL's New Jersey Devils and the Big East Basketball Conference's Seton Hall Pirates. In October 2012, a 6th location will open in Stamford, CT and in early 2013 a 7th location will open in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn. Billionaire investor George Soros' investment company owns a 70% stake in Dinosaur BBQ.[2]
In 2001, a cookbook with many of the restaurant's recipes was published titled Dinosaur Bar-B-Que: An American Roadhouse.[3]

[edit] Norovirus Outbreak
In late November 2006, its Syracuse location was affected by the Norovirus and was closed for about a week until cleared to reopen by county health inspectors. Hundreds of customers and employees were affected. It is unclear how the virus materialized. Onondaga County health inspectors have not found fault on the part of the restaurant. In fact, they have applauded the restaurant for its complicity and resolve.[4]

In May 2009 Dinosaur Bar-B-Que was voted America's best barbecue in ABC's "Good Morning America" poll. Dinosaur Bar B Que was selected as winner of Good Morning America's Best Barbecue in the country, beating out entrants from across the United States. Approximately 4000 out of the 7500 participants in the poll selected Dinosaur Bar-B-Que as the best in the nation.[5][6]
[edit] Man v. Food
Adam Richman, host of the Travel Channel's Man v. Food, took the show to Syracuse, New York (season 3, episode 13) on June 8, 2010. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que was the first stop for Richman, who tried the restaurant's "Pork-Sket" sandwich (which features 1/2-pound each of brisket and pulled pork). It was first broadcast on the Travel Channel on September 1, 2010.[7]
