Dirty electronic is a style of electronic music produced using distorted/gritty synthesizer and drum machine sounds, while maintaining a lead-vocal-driven pop song structure. The name of this style of music was formally coined by Mark Nicholas (aka Cosmicity) and Dirty Electronic has been the name of Mark Nicholas's record label (see dirtyelectronic.com ) as well as his publishing company (see BMI.com ) since 2003. Dirty Electronic, as a genre, could be considered a cousin of Synthpop, Electroclash, Industrial and, in some ways, Nerdcore.
