Downtown at the Gardens is a 350,000-square-foot (33,000 m2) upscale retail, restaurant and outdoor lifestyle center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on PGA Boulevard and Alternate A1A, east of I-95. An open-air two-level, lifestyle center with 50 stores and restaurants, its anchors include the 16-screen Cobb Theatre, Whole Foods Market, Urban Outfitters, and The Cheesecake Factory.[1] Downtown at the Gardens is also home to three permanent art fountains and landscaped walkways and courtyards.
In 2010, Downotwn at the Gardens opened its custom designed carousel. Created by Carousel Works, the hand-carved feature boasts a menagerie of 27 characters authentic to South Florida and Palm Beach Gardens. The Downtown Express was opened in 2011, a miniature train that chugs throghout the property providing rides for kids and adults alike.
Initially the complex was operated by Simon Property. The complex received criticism because of its confusing design and overwhelming competition at the nearby The Gardens Mall. It became 30% unoccupied within its first few years of operation. Many of the shopping center's fixtures, such as its fountains and lush gardening, have gone unattended. On the brink of foreclosure in June 2009, Rockville, Maryland-based Berman Enterprises LP assumed ownership of the center.
Since the purchase, Berman Enterprises has worked to bring the property back to a Class A destination. The addition of the carousel, train, new landscaping, wayfinding signs, logo and branding, events, and both local and national retailers have been a success. The center now is over 90% leased.
Guests are entertained each week by concerts in Centre Court that range from Opera and Jazz to Pop and Blues. Thorughout the year, larger signature events occur highlighting the property, tenants and community. Signature events include: Downtown in Bloom, Art in the Gardens, The Lexus Taste at Downtown, Mommy and Me, The Art of Wine and a huge holiday celebration featuring over 350,000 lights synchronized to music.
Each year, Downtown Lights the Night, attracts crowds from throughout the area throughout the holiday season. Featuring four shows per night, Downtown Lights the Night brings a festive holiday extravaganza to the property.
Downtown at the Gardens is committed to the community and works with a non-profits, schools and community programs. The Downtown Carousel has been used to donate funds back to local not for profit organization. Riders fares go directly to the non profit on designated days. In the 2011, Downtown at the Gardens donated over $50,000 to local charitable organizations.
Downtown at the Gardens has been successful in drawing tenants to the property since being purchased by Berman Enterprises. New tenants A Latte Fun Indoor Playground and Cafe; Fro-Yotopia; Urban Home; Cartoon Cuts; The Magical Animal, Style So Chic, Crazy 8's, Taylor Private Fitness and more have begun to secure the properties future as a destination for shopping. Downtown's restaurant selections are second to none in the area featuring 51 Supper Club & Lounge, Cabo Flats, The Cheesecake Facotry, Dirty Martini, Field of Greens, Grimaldi's Brick -Oven Pizzeria, MJ's Fresh, Paris in Town Le Bistro, RA Sushi, TooJay's and Yard House.
