In the sport of cricket, the dugout is a team's bench area and is located on the ground's boundary, outside of the general field of play. There are two dugouts, one for the home team and one for the visiting team. In general, the dugout is occupied by all players not prescribed to be on the field at that particular time, as well as coaches and other personnel authorized by the league. The players' equipment (gloves, bats, pads, batting helmets, keeper's equipment, etc.), along with water and energy drinks, are usually stored in the dugout.
The dugout has recently been used in cricket since the advent of Twenty20 cricket, because since it is located just off the field of play, players can enter and exit the field of play more quickly in comparison to a pavilion, therefore maintaining the fast and exciting atmosphere of the game.
