|Elevation||8,609 ft (2,624 m)|
Two versions are current on how the place got its name: first, that it was named after the Union Navy man-of-war USS Dunderberg, and second, that it was named from the nearby Dunderberg Mine. Dunderberg is a Swedish word meaning "thunder mountain."
