Verinag is a town and a notified area committee in Anantnag district in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, India.

Verinag is located at 33°33′N 75°15′E / 33.55°N 75.25°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 1,851 metres (6,076 feet). this is place of Decent People particularly in verinag Shahabad. the District is also famous for having the privilege of a famous poet namely Rasool Mir & Verinag garden with river Jehlim emerging from it.

As of 2001[update] India census,[2] Verinag had a population of 16,727. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Verinag has an average literacy rate of 66, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70% and, female literacy is 46%. In Verinag, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
